Strategically located on a corridor connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa, the Saudi Ports Authority, "Mawani," manages one of the most advanced port systems in the region. Established in 1976 as an independent entity, Mawani oversees and develops Saudi ports, positioning them as critical hubs for international shipping and logistics.
In 1997, a royal decree initiated the privatization of Saudi ports, allowing private sector involvement in operations, maintenance, and modernization. This approach attracted significant investment, fostering continued development to meet global standards.
In 2018, the organization transitioned to the General Authority for Ports, achieving financial and administrative independence. By aligning with the 2021 National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services, Mawani aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia's role as a global logistics center, enhancing container capacity and logistics performance as part of Vision 2030 goals.
