IMT has developed a specialist sensor that measures the top and bottom pressures of cryogenic tank containers. Based on these pressure and volume measurements, a pre-set alert can be incorporated in the sensor, giving time for the operator or shipper to take appropriate action.

Main features of the cryogene solution (CS20)

  • Measuring the liquid level of cryogenic liquids in tank containers is commonly done by measuring the differential pressure between the liquid phase and the gas phase within the tank container. The differential pressure directly corresponds to the filling level of the tank. When the physical properties of the liquid and tank container are well known, one can easily calculate the loaded mass by measuring the differential pressure.
  • The gas pressure (aka working pressure) alone is also very valuable to measure, because for too low rest volumes after unloading it is known to come to a rapid increase in the gas pressure, which may result in the overpressure valve to open. To get an early warning of such a development, the gas pressure is an important key value to be monitored.
  • The IMT differential pressure sensing solution CS20 caters for both pressure measurements by using two PS20-Ex pressure sensor devices. The PS20-Ex is ATEX IIC certified.
  • Can be updated with new firmware wirelessly (OTA)

The setup of a cryogenic tank with a cryogenic telematic solution consists of:

  • P1 = Pressure Gauge (Pressure)
  • P2 = Differential Pressure (Volume)
